The first of this year's three full supermoons is on Aug. 29, when it will be at its closest point to earth. The full moons on Aug. 29, Sept. 28 and Oct. 27 are called supermoons because their centers and the center of earth are 224,834 miles apart. The closest supermoon of the year will be Sept. 28 which will be 221,753 miles from earth.
