No Medically Assisted Dying In California

The End of Life Option Act that was approved by the state Senate last month now lacks the votes to pass a key committee. A poll has shown than most Californians support the bill, however, a group of Democratic Assembly members have refused to support it after heavy lobbying from the Catholic Church. On Tuesday the bill’s authors decided not to press for a vote this year. The bill received attention after Californian Brittney Maynard, 29, moved to Oregon last year to end her life instead of suffering the debilitation and pain of brain cancer. Medical aid for the dying is authorized in Oregon, Washington State, Montana, New Mexico and Vermont.
