Staying Active Alongside the San Diego River Days Events

The idea for River Days first surfaced at a San Diego River Coalition meeting in 2002. Glen Torbett, who was involved with the local chapter of the Sierra Club and Friends of Ruffin Canyon, then suggested having various groups within the Coalition holding events relating to the River. The idea caught on, and this 12th Annual San Diego River Days offers thirty-seven events over the course of weekends May 9-10 and May 16-17, including mountain hikes, bike rides along the River, tours and clean-ups- culminating at the Benchmark Brewing Company for San Diego River trivia and Happy Hour. The San Diego River Park Foundation organized the events with the support of sponsors and local officials at a variety of locations along San Diego County’s 440-square-mile watershed, from Santa Ysabel to Ocean Beach. To experience the 52-mile river and associated parks, trails and open spaces these River Days, contact the San Diego River Park Foundation at (619) 297-7380 for information on events and locations.
